Wagner Society of Washington, D.C. to Present Third

Evelyn Lear and Thomas Stewart Emerging Singers Concert

On Friday, October 19th, 2001, the Wagner Society of Washington, D.C. will present the third Evelyn Lear and Thomas Stewart Emerging Singers Concert at 7:30 P.M. in the auditorium of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, 4645 Reservoir Road, Northwest, Washington.

An all-Wagner program of songs, solos, and duets will be performed by five American singers with the talent and potential for careers singing Wagner in the world of opera. The five were selected by the world-famous opera stars and teachers Evelyn Lear and Thomas Stewart together with Wagner Society Board of Directors member, John Edward Niles, who is also the Director of the Opera Theater of Northern Virginia.

Evelyn Lear and Thomas Stewart will introduce the five singers at the concert and at the artists’ reception that will follow in the embassy for all who attend the concert. The five singers are spinto soprano Alma De Lon, dramatic baritone Jason Detwiler, tenor Thomas Rolf Truhitte, soprano Jennifer Wilson, and returning for her second appearance in these concerts, the mezzo-soprano Laura Zuiderveen. The noted Washington performer and teacher Betty Bullock will accompany.

The Wagner Society Emerging Singers Program is a partnership of the Society with Evelyn Lear and Thomas Stewart. These concerts and the support for the singers that may follow are intended to help the development of vocal talent suited for Richard Wagner’s operatic music, and to promote the enjoyment of that music.

Admission to the concert and reception costs $25 for Wagner Society members and $35 for others. Membership information and reservations for the concert and reception are available by calling the Society at 301.907.2600. Limited parking space will be available on the embassy grounds, and there is plenty of parking space outside the embassy on Reservoir Road. The concert program will be posted at the Society’s Web site at www.wagner-dc.org.

The Wagner Society of Washington, D.C. is a private, non-profit organization established for the promotion and enjoyment of Wagner’s art.
