THE WAGNER SOCIETY OF WASHINGTON, D.C.

The concert of
Wagner solos and scenes will feature four singers with the voices and potential
for careers singing Wagner in the world of opera. They have been selected by the world famous opera stars Evelyn Lear and Thomas
Stewart and Wagner Society member, John Edward Niles, who is also the Director of the Opera Theater of Northern
Virginia. The four singers are soprano Gail Sullivan, who will
appear for the second time in these concerts; baritone Charles Robert
Austin, who sang the part of Hunding in the Virginia Opera’s
production of Die Walküre last year;
tenor Michael
Hayes; and mezzo-soprano Roxanne Rowedder. The noted Washington
performer and teacher Betty Bullock will accompany. Evelyn Lear
and Thomas Stewart will introduce the singers in the concert and at the
artists’ reception that will follow in the Embassy for all who attend the
concert. Please note: Current security
procedures require that each person entering the Embassy compound present a
photo-ID, such as a driver’s license -- other will be turned away. Those with handicaps may park on the Embassy
grounds by making arrangements in advance.

The Wagner Society
Emerging Singers Program is a partnership between the Society and Evelyn Lear
and Thomas Stewart. Its goals in
presenting these concerts and support that may follow are the development of
vocal talent suitable for Wagner’s music and the promotion of its enjoyment and
study.
