               The Wagner Society of Washington, D. C. Announces a  

                               Concert with the McLean Orchestra

 

The Concert will be held on Wednesday, June 14, at 7:30 P. M. at the Oakcrest School, 850 Balls Hill Road, McLean, Virginia.

 

The Concert. The Evelyn Lear and Thomas Stewart Emerging Singers Program, a partnership with the Wagner Society of Washington, D. C., will present a Concert on June 14, 2006, bringing talented singers together with the McLean Orchestra, under the direction of Sylvia Alimena. The singers – soprano Kara Harmon, mezzo soprano Jennifer Roderer, tenor David Smith and baritone Jason Stearns --- have outstanding developing careers in opera. They will sing selections from Richard Wagner’s operas Lohengrin, Die Walkuere, Siegfried, and Tristan und Isolde. The Concert is the twelfth concert to be presented over the past six years by the Wagner Society and the renowned American opera stars, Evelyn Lear and Thomas Stewart.

 

McLean Orchestra has been providing area patrons with live orchestral concerts for the past 34 years.  In 2003, the orchestra hired Sylvia Alimena and embarked on a new era, significantly improving its artistic product.  Maestra Alimena is among the growing ranks of women conductors who are breathing new life into American orchestras with programming distinguished by both its artistic merit and its broad audience appeal.  Recently named to the “Music Hall of Fame” by Washingtonian Magazine, Ms. Alimena has an active conducting schedule throughout the Washington area.  She is currently in her 21st year as a horn player with the National Symphony Orchestra.

 

The Wagner Society of Washington, D. C. is a private, non-profit organization devoted to the study and enjoyment of Richard Wagner’s art. Many events are free to members and the public.
