WASHINGTON, D.C., JANUARY 2004 ---- The Wagner Society of Washington, D.C. announces its second event of the new year, a presentation by the famous and prolific author of the recently published Queer Street: Rise and Fall of an American Culture, 1947-1985: Excursions in the Mind of the Life

The lecture will be on Thursday, February 19, 2004, at 7:30 P.M. at the George Washington University, Funger Hall, 2201 G Street, N.W. It is free and open to the public.
The Topic. This famous author of the 1971 send-up of the opera world, Mawrew Czgowchwz (pronounced "Mardu Gorgeous"), now a cult classic still in print, will draw on his deep appreciation and extensive knowledge of opera to tell why some Wagner heroines -- Isolde, Kundry, Brünnhilde, Venus-Elizabeth -- are really out to kill the men they seem to love.
The Speaker. James McCourt was born in New York City and attended college there and at Yale. He also attended the Old Met on many occasions. He is the author of," Delancy's Way, Wayfaring at Waverly in Silver Lake, Kaye Wayfaring in "Avenged" and a book that has been called the most extraordinary account of the AIDS crisis, Time Remaining. The New Yorker, The Paris Review, The Yale Review, and others have published his stories. Last month, The New York Times said of his newest book, "A fierce critical intelligence animates every page of "Queer Street," James McCourt's first non-fiction work. James McCourt lives and works in New York and Washington, D.C.
