The Fifth Evelyn Lear and Thomas Stewart Emerging Singers Concert.  We will give another in our series of singer development program concerts at the German Embassy at 4645 Reservoir Road, Northwest, at 7:30 PM on Friday, October 11th.  Evelyn Lear and Thomas Stewart will introduce soprano Alison Bolshoi, tenor Ten-David Kelso, baritone Nathan Bahney returning for his second performance in these concerts, baritone David Fredericks, and tenor _______, five singers who have the talent for possible careers singing Wagner’s music.  The concert will consist of solos, duets, and scenes from Wagner’s operas and will be accompanied by the noted Washington teacher and accompanist, Betty Bullock.  Those attending will have an opportunity to meet the artists at a reception that will follow the concert.  Don’t miss it!  Tickets are $25 for Society members and $35 for others.

Pre-performance Lecture by Iain Scott

 

Ticket holders for the Sunday Matinée performance of Die Walküre by Virginia Opera, will have the opportunity of hear one of The Wagner Society’s favorite lecturers, Iain Scott or Toronto, introduce and explain Die Walküre in a lecture titled _______________________ at 12:30 PM in the auditorium of the Arts Center of the George Mason University.  Mr. Scott, who has lectured widely in the US and Canada and appeared regularly on The Texas Opera Quiz during Metropolitan Opera broadcasts, has lectured twice for the Society on Tannhäuser and Parsifa.l.  He will be introduced by the very beloved opera expert and Wagner author, Father M, Owen Lee, also of Metropolitan Opera broadcast fame.

The Opera.  Virginia Opera will be putting on Wagner for the first time when it presents Die Walküre in September and October in three Virginia cities.  The two performances in Fairfax will be the only chance for Washingtonians to hear a Wagner opera on stage in the coming opera season.  A distinguished cast will include Jeanine Altmeier as Sieglinde, Barbara Dever as Fricka, and Thomas Rolf Truhitte, who has sung in two of our Emerging Singer concerts, making his Wagner debut as Siegmund –a proud event for the Wagner Society of Washington, D.C.  Virginia Opera has made available an allotment of 150 tickets to the Wagner Society for its members and their guests in three categories for the 2:00 PM Sunday matinee ranging from $42 in the Grand Tier to $78 in the Orchestra.  A gala cast party dinner will follow the opera at _________.  Tickets for the “surf and turf” dinner at the _____ are $35 for Wagner Society members and their guests.
