The Famous Canadian Wagner Expert, Iain Scott

 

Baptism of the Morning Dream:  The Quintet from Die Meistersinger

 

 

Music lovers will remember the brilliant Iain Scott in his Wagner Society lecture of February 2000 on Tannhäuser.   Come and hear Iain Scott’s interesting reasons to believe that the beautiful quintet from his favorite opera Die Meistersinger is one of the high points of civilization (!).  Mr. Scott’s lecture will be generously illustrated with audio excerpts from his favorite performances of the great Wagner masterpiece that is being put on this year both at the Metropolitan Opera and at the San Francisco Opera.

<  Thursday September 20 --  All About Evelyn:  An Evening With Evelyn Lear.  The famed soprano will talk about her careers as singer, wife, mother, and grandmother with plenty of sound and video illustrations.  At the Levine School of Music, 2801 Upton Street, N.W. at 7:30 P.M.

 

<  Friday, October 19 -- The third Thomas Stewart and Evelyn Lear Emerging Singers Concert at the German Embassy, 4645 Reservoir Road, N.W. at 7:30 PM.  Five singers with potential in the Wagner repertoire in opera will give a program of Wagner arias and songs.  $25 for Wagner Society Members, $35 for the general public.  Use the form on the back of the flyer announcing the concert to reserve a place or call the number below.

 

<  Thursday, November 15 -- The beloved and famed Washington opera producer and lecturer Saul Lilienstein will give a entirely new lecture on Die Meistersinger, generously illustrated with audio and video recordings.  At GWU, Funger Hall 103, 7:30 P.M.

 

<  Thursday, December 6 -- Lecturer and Wagner Society member Phillip W. Raines will again treat us to one of his expert video lectures on this great Wagner masterpiece, Die Meistersinger.  At GWU, Funger Hall 103, 7:30 P.M.

 

<  Saturday, December 8 --  Die Meistersinger at the Metropolitan Opera.  A limited number of tickets are available to Wagner Society Members who are being contacted separately about applying.
