The Wagner Society of Washington DC
For the Study and Enjoyment of Wagner's Art
Who We Are In the Spring of 1997, a small group of Wagnerians, building on initiatives taken by Janice F. Rosen, held informal organizational meetings and active programs that led to the creation of The Wagner Society of Washington DC. A Board of Directors was established in the summer of 1998 and is continuing to expand programming and membership.
The purposes of the Society are:
- to organize, plan, and promote Wagner-related events, such as lectures, workshops, symposia, a newsletter, a Web page, and live operatic performances;
- to relate the Society's efforts to area opera activities as appropriate;
- to encourage and facilitate group attendance at live performances of Wagner's works in the Washington-Baltimore area, as well as in other cities in the US and abroad; and
- to establish contact with other Wagner societies, both in the US and abroad, to encourage and develop complementary and synergistic programming.
