DEADLINE TO APPLY: MARCH 1, 2008

Background:  We arrive at Wagner’s Tannhäuser, this year building on the success of our seven previous Wildnis weekends including Der Ring des Nibelungen: Das Rheingold (2001), Die Walküre (2002), Siegfried (2003) and Götterdämmerung (2004), Die Meistersinger (2005), Parsifal (2006), and Lohengrin (2007)). The traditional weekend includes lecture and discussion sessions in the comfortable meeting rooms, collegial conversations in the corridors, and walks in the bucolic countryside with the lecturers and Members. The Saturday night (live) reading of the libretto in English by Wildnis participants in assigned roles will take place!

The two main presenters, our "dream team" veterans are:

  • Pianist Jeffrey Swann presenting his prized lecture-demonstrations at the piano known from previous Wildnis weekends, his performances at the German Embassy, his talk for the historic Smithsonian Institution Tristan und Isolde seminar in 2004, and his lectures at Bayreuth.

·    Professor Simon Williams, Chairman, Drama Department, University of

California at Santa Barbara, presents his insightful lectures on Wagner and drama.  His latest book is: Wagner and the Romantic Hero (2005).

· The Saturday night libretto reading with our talented participating Members is directed once again by Betty Byrne.

· Moderator is Aurelius (Aury) Fernandez assisted by Board Members and previous Wildnis weekend participants

Registration Fee, to be paid in full by March 1 is $295 per person (single room); $270 per person (double room) and includes the libretto, two nights lodging, breakfast, lunch and dinner, and two evening after-hours parties with libations -- including a special celebration following the Saturday night libretto reading!
