Wagner in der Wildnis VI: PARSIFAL

Our 6th Annual weekend retreat!

(a Member-only event)

Friday, June 2, to Sunday, June 4, 2006

Cacapon Resort State Park

Berkeley Springs, West Virginia 25411

REGISTRATION LIMITED TO 60 PARTICIPANTS.

DEADLINE TO APPLY: MARCH 1, 2006

Background:  We arrive at Wagner’s final opera, Parsifal, this year building on the success of our five previous Wildnis weekends on Der Ring des Nibelungen: Das Rheingold (2001), Die Walküre (2002), Siegfried (2003) and Götterdämmerung (2004) and, then, Die Meistersinger (2005). The weekend includes lecture and discussion sessions in the comfortable meeting rooms, collegial conversations in the corridors and at meal times as well as the walks in the bucolic countryside with the lecturers and Members and the famous Saturday night (live) reading of the libretto by Wildnis participants in assigned roles!.

The two main presenters, called the "dream team" by Wildnis weekend veterans, are the well known Bayreuth Festival lecturers and discussion leaders:

· Pianist Jeffrey Swann presents his prized lecture-demonstrations at the piano known from previous Wildnis weekends and his performances in Washington at the German Embassy for the past two years as well as his talk for the historic Smithsonian Institution Tristan und Isolde seminar (2004).

· Professor Simon Williams, Chairman, Drama Department, University of California at Santa Barbara, presents his insightful lectures on Wagner and drama.  His latest  book is Wagner and the Romantic Hero (2005).

· The Saturday night libretto reading with talented and willing participating Members is directed once again by Betty Byrne.

· Moderator is Aurelius (Aury) Fernandez assisted by Board Members and previous Wildnis-weekend participants

Registration Fee, to be paid in full by March 1: $295 per person (single room); $270 per person (double room).  This includes the libretto, two nights lodging, breakfast, lunch, and dinner and two evening after-hours parties with libations and a special celebration after the Saturday night libretto reading.
