7:00 PM 36th annual Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers, Concert of Arias! Each year, hundreds of emerging artists from around the globe audition for a coveted spot in the Sarah and Ernest Butler Houston Grand Opera Studio. Join us for the live final round of this competition, a soul-stirring, inspiring evening of performances by tomorrow’s stars. Tickets for the concert only are available here.
9:00 PM Celebratory Dinner Following the Concert of Arias performance, we hope you will join us for the post-concert celebration dinner with the finalists, winners, and current Butler Studio artists. Concert of Arias is one of HGO's most impactful fundraising events of the year. Special event packages include orchestra concert seating and a ticket to the post-concert dinner in the Grand Foyer. 10:15 am Unlocking Opera: Parsifal Study Day Join Wagner scholars and enthusiasts for Unlocking Opera: Parsifal. HGO will bring together Artistic and Music Director Patrick Summers, renowned musicologist and pianist Jeffrey Swann, Jungian scholar Sean Fitzpatrick, and stage director Brad Dalton for a day of in-depth learning as we explore the story's genesis, archetypal symbols, and moments of transformation in Wagner's last masterpiece. 7:30 Madame Butterfly A revival of Tony Award-winning director Michael Grandage’s acclaimed production. Directed by Jordan Braun, the opera stars internationally sought-after soprano Ailyn Pérez as Cio-Cio-San, tenor Yongzhao Yu as Pinkerton, mezzo-soprano Sun-Ly Pierce as Suzuki, bass-baritone Michael Sumuel as Sharpless, bass William Guanbo Su as the Bonze, and tenor Rodell Rosel as Goro.
