Details
This November, the Wagner Society welcomes Donald Palumbo, former Chorus Master of the Metropolitan Opera and current Chorus Director of the Chicago Symphony Chorus.
During his long tenure at the Metropolitan Opera, Palumbo prepared the Met Chorus for more than twenty productions each season, with his work represented on seven Grammy Award-winning opera recordings.
For his evening with the Society, Palumbo plans something especially appropriate for an audience of Wagnerians.
Using the piano and printed copies of the music, he will teach the audience the melody of the chorale from Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in a "sing-along" and then demonstrate how Wagner interweaves that melody with the orchestra by singing it in the context of the score.
It is a rare opportunity not simply to hear about Wagner’s compositional technique, but to experience it from the inside.
