The Polish pianist and patriot Ignacy Paderewski called Die Meistersinger “the greatest work of genius ever achieved by any artist in any field of human endeavor.” H. L. Mencken described it as “the greatest single work of art ever produced by man.” Toscanini wanted to lay down his baton only after conducting it, and Father Owen Lee called it “a hymn to music.” Jim Holman will continue his Wagner courses at OLLI by exploring in detail Die Meistersinger’s music, libretto, and its myriad timeless themes.
The course meets in-person weekly on Thursday mornings at 9:45 am from October 1st through December 3rd.
