WSWDC and Politics and Prose Bookstore will co-sponsor a discussion by New Yorker music critic Alex Ross and classical music and theater critic Anne Midgette of his new book, Wagnerism: Art and Politics in the Shadow of Music. The book explores the ways in which the impact of Wagner’s work was felt by groundbreaking 20th century artists such as Virginia Woolf, Thomas Mann, Paul Cézanne, Isadora Duncan, and Luis Buñuel, and by other cultural and political figures including, most famously, Adolf Hitler. This event will offer Wagner Society members and friends an introduction to the book in advance of a planned interview of Alex Ross by WSWDC Chairman Jim Holman in January (details to be announced).
